Workshop Registration

What comes to mind when you think about Vegas? Most likely it’s casinos, hotels and entertainment. Now you’re coming to the Las Vegas Weekend Jam II for a weekend of dance too!

Now imagine this, to compliment your fun filled dance vacation weekend you become introduced to other dances to expand your dance portfolio. We have instructional workshops designed for singles and couples that cover all facets of club and competitive dancing.

None of this is what you expected from a Vegas vacation but it’s exactly what you can experience when you sign up for one or more of these dance workshops. Remember, for those individuals that purchased a weekend package, one (1) dance workshop is included in your package. So, read the reviews and you might want to take an additional workshop or two, or maybe all.

  • One (1) dance workshop is included in your weekend package.
  • You must select a workshop in the Registration process.  You can change at a later date if you desire.
  • No partner is needed in the partnered dance art form workshops.
  • Additional workshop offerings will be available for purchase at $20 per person donation online beginning April 1, 2009 or $25 per person donation onsite.

A dance weekend would not be complete without a vast selection and diversity of workshops.  We offer workshops in Line Dance (from both the East Coast and the Mid-West), Chicago Stepping, Detroit “Graystone” Ballroom, and Soulful Swing Dance Fusion (Hand Dance and West Coast Swing).

Our workshop instructors are some of the most well known, respected and skilled dancers and instructors in their respective dance art forms.

Workshop #1 – East Coast ‘Soul’ Line Dance for All Levels
Friday, October 2nd – 6:00p to 7:30p
Website:
www.AlineProduction381.com

Aline Goodman (Philadelphia, PA) is returning to kick off the Weekend Jam with the latest Line Dances on the East Coast.  Last year she dazzled the class with her high energy and intricate Line Dances.  This year she has new ones and will have the written instructions for them too!  You will be able to dance what you learned at Friday night’s “Meet & Greet”!

Workshop #2 – Chicago Stepping for All Levels
Saturday, October 3rd – 9:00am to 10:30am
Website: www.Dance-Institute.com

Kammal, Larry (Detroit, MI) and their competent staff will accommodate the interested beginner, intermediates and advanced levels of Chicago Stepping enthusiasts.  The beginners will be introduced to their 10 basic steps that are the foundation for Stepping; the intermediates will have the opportunity to learn various movements, turns and lane management skills; and the advanced Stepper will be shown multiple turns, combinations and footwork.

Workshop #3 – Detroit “Graystone” Ballroom for
Beginners Only

Saturday, October 3rd – 10:45am to 12:15pm
Website: www.MrSmooth.com

Calvin Sibert a.k.a. “MR. SMOOTH” (Detroit, MI) and his lovely wife Jackie bring his style and grace of the “Graystone” Ballroom to students of dance that want a ‘taste’ of what Detroit’s phenomena is all about.  This couple has given workshops both locally, nationally and internationally.  The mainstay of Detroit’s dance community is the “Graystone” Ballroom.  The “Graystone” Ballroom, located on the corner of Woodward in Canfield in Detroit, was host to just about every important band between the mid-1920’s and the later 1940’s. Blacks gathered there to dance and have fun on Monday nights to showcase their dance skills and hence, Detroit’s “Graystone” Ballroom dance style emerged.  The “Graystone” eventually closed down and this terribly neglected historic site was demolished in 1980.  Although the “Graystone” Ballroom was torn down, that era of dance has not.  “MR. SMOOTH” will work with interested students to give them the foundation of this historic partnered dance art form.

Workshop #4 – Mid-West ‘Soul’ Line Dance for All Levels
Saturday, October 3rd – 2:30pm to 4:00pm

Sir Charles (Charles Hayes) (Detroit, MI) and Sylvia Powell (Detroit, MI), two of Detroit’s finest Hand Dance instructors,  have joined forces to bring you the Mid-West’s Line Dance craze.  These two instructors have taught hundreds of students Line Dance in both clubs and studios in the Detroit Metropolitan area.  They will introduce you to all of the ‘latest’ Mid-West Line Dances and Sir Charles has to teach you the “Cruise”, although an older Line Dance, one of Detroit’s favorite mainstays.

Workshop #5 – Detroit “Graystone” Ballroom for the
Intermediate/ Advanced Levels

Saturday, October 3rd – 4:15pm to 5:45pm

Angie Scott, Al McClinton (Detroit, MI) and their staff from Upscale Dance Productions will be back again with combinations and movements that has given this dance the lineage that it deserves and gives credence to their phrase, “The Era Is Back”.  This session is not for the beginner but for the person that is accomplished, well grounded in the dance and desires to add more combinations to their ‘arsenal’ of moves. Upscale will work with interested intermediate and advanced students to give them the flair and elegance of this historic partnered dance art form.

Workshop #6 – Chicago Step ‘Female’ Only Styling & Footwork
for the
Advanced Level Only
Sunday, October 4th – 9:00am to 10:30am
Website:
www.Dance-Institute.com

The Steady Steppers (Detroit, MI) female instructors bring you females fancy footwork, lane management skills, multiple turns and spins, floor etiquette and overall styling techniques that will make you look like more than just a prop on the dance or competition floor for your male counterpart.  The Steady Stepper male instructors will be on hand for you to dance with as you learn the skills.

Workshop #7 – Soulful Swing Dance Fusion for All Levels

New for this year, we are honored to have, Tammy Brown, a Baltimore, MD native and one of their finest and best instructors.  Tammy will instruct a combination of Hand Dance and West Coast Swing into what is titled “Soulful Swing Dance Fusion”.  Baltimore/D.C. Hand Dance is comparable to the Detroit Bop, West Coast Swing, Texas 2 Step and the Philly Bop and has a rich tradition in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area.  Tammy will focus on technique, style and execution of this powerful and exciting dance.

Tammy launched her teaching career in 2004 and has been awarded top swing dance teacher for the 2008 Mad Jam Productions, 2007 Easterns’ Dance Challenge, 2006 Swing Fling, and 2005 United States National Dance Championships.  Competitively, she has won, with her partner Kevin Fitzhugh several championships.  There most proud accomplishments are the 2006 U S Open Swing Dance Swing Dance Champion Title in the Sophisticated Swing Division and receiving the 2008 Frankie Manning award for the Performing Arts Division at the Tri-State Swing/Line Dance Competition.
